He's finally here. She made us a wait a few extra days, but Cher finally foaled. For being a maiden mare, she was plenty sneaky about it too. No real signs that she was due to foal imminently. She was checked at 9:00 pm and was just standing and resting. At 10:00 check, Boogie had already been born. We may have missed the actual birth, but we were there to see him get to his feet and for that first step. Little bugger was strong and up in half an hour and just keeps getting stronger. Today is day 2 and if it weren't for the rain, we would be letting him out to run around and stretch his legs as he is pretty frustrated with trying to run in a foaling stall.
Boogie or Berry Sweet Rhythm is a black with blanket. We couldn't have ordered one more perfect and dreamed of one this exact color. I just love his perfect little blaze. He's so incredibly cute, curious and just what will put our new farm and breeding program on the map. I hope we can find him the perfect show home to take him to the top.
I have to thank Jess at The Pony Farm for sitting by her phone and responding to all my questions. It has been seven years since Cher was born and she was our last foal born. Divorce forced us to get out the breeding business, so it was only fitting that she was the mare that brought our first foal as Berry Sweet Acres into the world. You would think I would remember something of breeding after only 7 years, but everything I did know went out the window when he arrived. I was just so excited and so nervous as I wanted everything to be perfect for him and momma. Thank you for being so patient with my questions so late at night.
Cher and baby are doing great - if a little stir crazy during the storm today. We can't wait to get him out and watch him move as he unfolds and fills out. For now, we keep cuddling with him and loving up on him. Someone is going to get a great one with him. Contact us soon - we don't expect him to last long with his pedigree and color.
