Meet Cher!

I love this story. I sure don't mind sharing it again and again. It's probably already on this blog somewhere but I did a quick search and didn't find it so..... here we go!

2011 was the year that Libby was crushing it in the show pen with "that black pony" aka Dutch Rhythm N Blues and Anne surprised her by trading us for Rye's dam, a filly by the side (Cutie) and bred back again. You should have been there to see the moment when Anne handed Libby the lead rope and told her to take her new broodmare home. Libby was going to have 3 full siblings.

In 2013 we were so excited when Cher was born. She was everything we had dreamed of. But the year was bittersweet. Excited as we were to have them all, divorce that year would not allow us to keep all the ponies we wanted in our pasture. We held on to Cher for as long as we could but by the fall of 2014 we had to make some tough choices and Cher headed down to OK.

It was several years later when we had a new farm, a new start on life and we decided we wanted to start breeding a few ponies. We were so excited to get Cher back in trade. Cher made her way back from OK (with Mercy) and Cher was finally home To say we love this big black lug would be an understatement. She is the kind of pony that can literally sit for a year or two, saddle her up and go for a ride. She's smart, kind and has the most gentle disposition . You will not find a kinder mare than Cher.

She has produced some amazing babies over the last few years. Her babies are kind, smart and cool legged. This year she will earn her proven producer award and this year I may be down enough in numbers that we are able to keep a baby of Cher's. Libby has big dreams of winning the McClaren Futurity on a baby of an S pony. (Cher's dam- Cutie Shadow S- is from the McClaren farm which the futurity is named for.)

This year Cher will have her third baby by Fifty Shades Darker. Turns out you can "accidentally" buy a stallion breeding when you've had too many margaritas. Who knew? Lol As amazing the other two full siblings have been- I'm not worried at all and so looking forward to the end of April. This cross is fantastic and there is a reason we have repeated it 3 times.

The plan is to breed her to Nugget for 2025. Cannot wait to finally see this cross. Her filly by his sire was one of the best movers I have ever seen. If she had had a spot- she would have been staying here. As it is we are thrilled that she gets to live with our friends at Wisel Creek with her 2023 sister, Lilo.

Watch the website for updates on Cher this spring! You won't want to be late to that party.
